So, pigeons are SCARY CREATURES.
I decided to eat by the Singapore River today, and much to my surprise, the seat I was sitting at yesterday was free, so I sat there and ate. The water was slightly different today, and although the water was moving, the sun wasn't sparkly. I guess it's because it isn't as windy today.
Now, remember the pigeons that I was mentioning in my last post? Well, they were still there today, and some curious pigeons came closer to me as I ate. It made me remember feeding the pigeons at Trafalgar, and I wondered if I could do the same here.
Of course, as everyone knows, littering is a fineable offence in Singapore, and I didn't want to be seen throwing food on the floor scarely 100m from my workplace (I might get fired! Horrors!). But I figured that if the pigeons ate it, it wouldn't be considered littering.
So, I 'accidently' dropped a tiny piece of bacon. They found it too dry, but since it was so tiny no one else saw. As I was about to finish my burger, I threw a tiny piece of bread. It was gobbled up quickly, but no major movements. So far so good.
Then I threw a very very short, squishy French fry.
Chaos! Immediately an entire flock of pigeons swamped the floor around me (I'm NOT exaggerating). Some of them chased after the pigeon that had a french fry in its mouth, but most of them flocked around me. Some jumped up on the bench that I was on.
I was slightly amused, but had no intention of giving them anymore if they were going to prowl around me like a bunch of hungry wolves. So what I did was try and shoo them.
It was then that it got frightening. No amount of shooing would keep them away, and to top matters off, the /crows/ started coming too! I didn't actually see them, but I definitely heard them. So I packed up and went to sit somewhere else. When I left, the stupid birds were still gathered around that bench.
Motto of story:
Never feed Singaporean birds. They're obnoxious creatures. And they feed in packs. Freaky.
Then again, I suppose the birds at Trafalgar get fed so often they're probably sick of it.
Edit: I also find that my nose is getting sensitive to the smell of cigarette smoke. I can tell when people have been smoking in the lift lobby, whether the smoke be heavy or faint.
