Day 1: 10/5/2007

It's the end of my first day in Perth, and though I haven't done much sightseeing it has been an eventful day. A lot of firsts have been achieved in the past 24 hours.

The journey started out with preparing to head out to the airport. While I've sent a few people off at the airport, it had been ages since I had last left for the airport with luggage bags. Seeing the familar landmarks of open airport land and the control tower, it really felt like I was already on my travels.

The inside of Changi Airport has changed quite a bit since I last was there. Many new shops have been added to the transit area. There are also internet kiosks, viewing galleries complete with cafes, and even "Oasis" spots outfitted with TVs and massage chairs. Interesting changes, but nothing that especially holds my attention.

I only truly realised how long it had been since I last flew when I got on the plane. It was a disconcerting mix of the familiar and unfamiliar. I did know how to use silly stuff like the Krisworld remotes and fastening seatbles. I did not, hoever, remember it being so hrad to sleep, nor having difficulty eating the overly large breakfast.

Still, my flight into Australia did have its high points. Singapore from air at night is lovely, and I got to see a vivid Australian sunrise. It was a seemingly violent clash of deep deep blue and bright burning orange. Yet the two managed to blend into each other in a lovely gradient of hues. As the morning progressed, the orange and blue faded to the daylight clours of the sun and the sky. It was gorgeous.

Customs was quite troublefree, but there were enough hints to remind me that I was no longer in Singapore. The difference in the airports was one. Changi Airport was a lot more busy than Perth airport. Outside, I also saw quite a few strange birds.

I have this to say about Perth: the waters of the Swan River are the deepest blue i have ever seen river waters. I've usually only seen such a deep blue in the sea. Even from several streets away, the Swan River is a clear swath of blue. I can't wait to get a closer look at it.

The rest of the day passed in a blur of checking in, taking buses to see the city area in Perth, and going to the information desk. Based on the results of my research, my mom and I have decided to head to Freemantle tomorrow.

I quite like my room. It's actually a triple room, so we have three beds. They pushed two beds together so that we have a double bed. There's TV, electric kettle, and iron board even. Stupidly, I forgot to take a photo of the place, but it's really nice. ^^

Now I should head to bed, though my dad will be calling in a bit. Jessica will be calling later, for our meet-up.
