I made muffins today. My dad suddenly got the idea from a newspaper recipe, and grumbling I went along with him. To tell you the truth, I haven't been cooking for quite a bit, so this came a little out of left field for me.
I'd forgotten that I actually sort of like cooking. Even though I haven't actually cooked myself in a while, I watch my mom a lot. And I'm pretty good at figuring out recipes.
It was this ability to read recipes that led me to realise that my dad had gotten the amounts of the butter and the flour mixed up. It also made me more than a little harried during the course of cooking with my dad, because things went like this:
Me: Did you remember to measure the sugar?
Dad: Oh! *goes to do that*
Me: ... I smell something burning.
Dad: Oh! *runs to rescue the butter we're melting*
Despite all the trauma, the muffins turned out really good! So good that we even decided to whip up a second batch with the extra butter we had. My mom also commented that we were really fast bakers, since we finished with the ingredients prep and had the muffins in the oven in about 15 minutes.
I took some photos, but I haven't put them up yet because I have to get a new image host. Oh, the days when I could dump pics on a server!
