The new batch: Super efficient or super unfriendly?

So, let's see. My company just had a hiring exercise, so we have a lot of new people running around. This perfectly coincides with our recreational club committee stepping down, and naturally we try to recruit from the new batch.

DENIED! Apparently none of them are interested in running for the committee. Or at least, none of the ones that I don't know. Through various means (mostly through coersion) we get a new committee. We arrange to have lunch with the new team, and ask them to think of a place. Only 2 out of a 4 people strong committee respond, and they say:

"We suggest XX place. Any objections? If not we'll book a table once numbers are confirmed."

Sounds innocent right? Well, two issues:
1) XX place is not usually a place we make reservations.
2) Uh... we only suggested fewer people because you only have 2 people who are willing to go
3) Otherwise we can confirm the numbers.

Maybe I'm just being too sensitive after the committee fiasco, but from that e-mail I get the sense that they are super-unfriendly.
