Typing this in the office, while listening to elevator/classy restaurant style music, the tinkly kind that seems to be played on a super high-pitched piano.
Met Ling-chan for lunch (or rather, just coffee) today, and we went to walk by (where else?) the Singapore River. But it was /hot/ today, which kind of made it hard to just sit and watch the world go by, the way I originally intended. The last time it was this hot, I was having a cold, so I kind of welcomed the heat, but it was a little annoying today. I guess I know why Europeans don't really like sight-seeing in Singapore, the hot sun isn't condusive for it. (It is, however, condusive for sunbathing. Maybe ang moh tourists aren't as crazy as we make them out to be.)
Still, we walked along the riverside, through Fullerton and to Esplanade, sipping iced mochas topped with whipped cream all the way. (I don't understand how anyone can drink iced coffee without cream. It lacks that oomph. And Coffee Bean mochas still rule all the way, although for hazelnut lattes it's a tie between NIE cafe and San Fransisco Coffee.) Luckily, it was still as nice and quiet as usual, with everyone minding their own business. And the scenery is still beautiful as ever.
We spent some time watching the clouds, and Ling-chan has the amazing ability to see numbers in the sky (someone up there must really really like her). And for a while, there wasn't any need for words, just listening to the trees and the sea.
She's right. We must really really go there at night someday.
There's also this nice place in Standard Chartered, where there's a wall of water, like the pillars of water you find in Changi Airport. Only that the ones in Changi Airport are free falling, whereas the ones in Standard Chartered are guided by string. And there's sofas and a nice wall display there.
It's wonderful how many nice things there are if you bother to look.
